Tales of Mystery

We read Tales of Mystery written by Edgar Allan Poe. I had read The Cask of Amontillado written by Poe when I was first year student. He wrote the strange stories.

This book has three stories, The Fall of the house of Usher, The Oval Portrait, The Masque of the Red death. All stories are Gothic literature.

The Fall of the House of Usher describes the final days of a tormented and tragic family. I can’t understand this story perfectly.

The Oval Portrait is the story about a husband who loves painting and his wife. He draw a portrait of his wife but he concentrated on doing a portrait and his wife are dead because she can’t move.

The Masque of the Red Death is little horrible story. I like horror  stories so I like it.

Beauty and the beast

   “I took a rose from the garden of a monstrous beast and he has sworn to kill me…”

When beauty reads this letter from her father, she bravely rides to the Beast’s enchanted castle in his place.The Beast is truly terrifying, but, as beauty soon realizes, nothing is quite as it seems.

I have watched the movie. If I were a Beauty, I could not love Beast. I found my heart is dirty. Beauty has a very innocent heart and she is strong woman. I want to be like Beauty.

Different Worlds

I read Different worlds this week. This story is about deaf girl, Sam’s love story. Although she cannot hear any sound, she can feels music by vibration. She likes her mother’s playing guitar.

She loves a man who works at a supermarket. And one day she has a chance that she can meet that man at a party. She can talk with that man.

I become to want to cheer her. She is very strong girl. I like this story.

A picture to remember

Cristina works for the museum in Buenos Aires. One day she has a car accident and can’t remember everything about that accident. Two men is afraid from her remembering because if she remembers, they would be arrested. So they try to kill her.  But it is difficult to kill. It is easy to talk about killing, it’s a different thing to do it.

Cristina is helped by two men, Daniel and philippe. So the bank robbery can’t kill Cristina and finally she remembers everything about that car accident, and she remembers that two men are a bank robbery. The two men are arrestend.

Cristina marrys Philippe at the end of this story. I am surprised because I think Cristina loves Daniel, and they would be together. But Cristina choose Philippe.

Jungle shorts

Lenny’s class going to have football lessons next week, and the school will lend him some football boots. he want to have a new football uniform, but his mother bought jungle shorts for him. Lenny was sad.

But, in the football lesson, lenny and four students wear jungle shorts.

After reading this story, I feel happy. They can enjoy playing football and they wear the same jungle shorts. Their team name should be “Jungle shorts”.

Betty’s secret

Betty and Fiona were twin sisters. They looked exactly the same. Betty coloured her hair red and Fiona coloured her hair blonde.

On Friday evenings they went to  work at the centre. They fight.

Fiona is loved by everyone becouse she dressed in pink. Betty is hated becouse she dressed in brack. Betty wanted to be loved like Fiona, so she colured her hair blonde, and make Fiona’s hair colored red. Fiona wanted her hair to colour blonde because she was hated because of her hair.

After reading this story, I think that bad characters don’t want to act the bad characters. But they hated by everyone becaouse of their character,  so I think they are sometimes sad.

Mr Stanley’s trousers

I read Mr Stanley’s trousers. This story is about Mr Stanley’s trousers.

There are three main characters. Student, Derek and Janey. Mr Stanley is an art teacher.

Mr Stanley’s trousers are so dirty and look like an old table cloth. But one day he wears a new white suit without any marks. So student is surprised to see that. That suit is very beautiful white and he don’t want it to be dirty, so he changes back into his old table cloth trousers. and say,”Don’t go near it.”

Although Mr.Stanley said so, Derek go near it, and he rubbed his hands on a towel behind him. However, it is not a towel. It is Mr Stanley’s trouser.They try to clean it, but the beautiful white trousers become a green one. On the end, they tald atrouth to their teacher, but he said them, “Never mind about my trousers.”

Kichen of scool were on fire and Mr Stanley threw the suit on the fire.This is why he said so.

I think Derek and Janey should have tald the truth soon.They tried to hide the truth and the trousers became dirtier. And this time he was not angry becaouse the suit burnt, but he should get angry with them in ordinary case.

The ENORMOUS TURNIP

“That turnip’s ready,” said the farmer, one morning.

But he can’t pull it out of the ground. Soon he has a

string of helpers but the turnip just won’t budge.

How big  can this turnip be?

This book is a Level 3 book, USBORN FIRST READING.

This story is similar to “Okina kabu”.

One morning the former found the enormous turnip.

At first the farmer couldn’t move by hisself.The farmer and his family could get it.And they were happy and eat it everyday.

It was funny that the farmer said “Next year I’m growing carrots” at the end.

LOST CUP

You are a detective looking for the lost world cup of soccer.

You follow it to Rio, but what happens next?

I read LOST CUP by James Broadbridge.

This book is part of series, Atama-ii books.If I were to translate to Japanese,I called it Usinawareta yushou-hai.

It was an original work and fiction.Its genre is mistery.

This story takes place in Rio de Janero, just before the 2014 world cup of soccer.

The main character is the reader, me!

I enjoyed solve many riddles in this book.I rate it 8.

The Gingerbread Man

The naughty cookie jumped off the plate and dashed out the door.

“Run, run, as fast as you can.you can’t catch me.I’m the Gingerbread Man!”

I read the The Gingerbread Man.This story is so short and simple.But its picture is cute.Naughty cookie run away from many animals, but at last he was eaten by a fox.Was an old woman who baked gingerbread man witch? I didn’t know why gingerbread man could move.
